1. Garrett Morgan High School, Cleveland Ohio

Garrett Morgan High School (GMHS) is an academic building designed in an urban context, with a curriculum that focuses both on the humanities and technology. Situated on a 5 acre site, this 133,000 sf building carried a budget of $35 million and is located along the Cleveland Memorial Shoreway, adjacent to Lake Erie, near downtown Cleveland.

The designers walk the audience through the design, collaboration and construction of this new school in downtown Cleveland. Throughout the short film, the audience learns about the challenges facing the Detroit Shoreway neighborhood and how the school seeks to address these issues.

2. ACE Mentor Program - Architectural Drawing

ThenDesign Architecture is a proud participant of the ACE Mentor Program in Cleveland, Ohio. The ACE Mentor Program is an after school, educational program that exposes high school students to the architecture, construction, and engineering industries. Partnering with schools across the United States, including the Cleveland Metropolitan School District, designers from TDA recently explained the importance of communication in our field. For this engagement session, Jeff Henderson, Claire Bank and James Cowan built a “super-sized” architectural canvas to emphasize why we need to take a different perspective on architectural drawing.

4. Balloons Over Wadworth: Night Glow

Air in a hot air balloon is heated to over 210 degrees Fahrenheit, by a torch ignited off a liquid propane mix. The resultant flame is up to 12 feet long and fills the tear shaped envelope with 210,000 cubic feet of hot air. It expands the balloon to over 90 feet tall and allows the atmospheric pressure inside to lift the entire structure off the ground. Simple physics but absolutely awe inspiring in execution.

Thanks City of Wadsworth - City Hall for organizing the Night Glow event at 2019 Balloons Over Wadsworth. The footage makes for stunning colors.
